Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom Statement on Protests in Murietta, CA

Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom released the following statement on the Murrieta protests:

"Immigration can be a polarizing issue, but what happened in Murrieta yesterday strikes at the core of what it means to be a Californian, regardless of political preference. We are a place that celebrates diversity, tolerance and fundamental human compassion. These are women and children, fleeing abject fear and constant threat of violence. As Californians, we have every right and reason to send a loud message to our leaders in Washington about this broken system, but we should be directing our protests at those who continue to block immigration reform, not exploiting young children as political props."
