Lt. Governor Newsom keynotes border conference in San Diego
California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom delivered a keynote address on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of SENTRI (Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection), at UC San Diego.
Over the past two decades, SENTRI has been essential to the economic growth and viability of the San Diego-Tijuana region by reducing commuter wait times while protecting border integrity. Roughly 12.6 million SENTRI vehicle crossings were recorded in 2013 at the San Ysidro Port of Entry - the nation's busiest land border crossing - more than double the 5.9 million recorded four years earlier.
Lt. Governor Newsom remarked: "Here we are, in one of the most dynamic and plural regions, in the most diverse democracy of the world; the United States of America. This state does not tolerate its diversity, it celebrates it. At the end of the day, humanity unites us. We are living our best moment when we practice pluralism and strengthen our connections."
