STATEMENT: Acting Governor Newsom on the Passing of State Senator Sharon Runner
SACRAMENTO - California Acting Governor and Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement on the passing of California State Senator, Sharon Runner:
"Jennifer and I offer our sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and staff of California State Senator Sharon Runner, upon her passing today. She will be remembered by us for her tenacity, courage, and her dedication to public service and the State of California. The residents of Lancaster and the Antelope Valley have lost a committed advocate and a fighter, in the truest sense of those words."
State Senator Sharon Runner died Thursday, aged 62. Senator Runner represented California's twenty-first state senate district. She is survived by her husband and Board of Equalization Member George Runner, son Micah, daughter Rebekah, and four grandchildren.
In honor of Senator Runner, Acting Governor Gavin Newsom has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the state capitol.
