Lt. Governor Newsom Issues Veterans Day Statement

SACRAMENTO - California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement:

"On Veterans Day, we honor those who have answered duty's call and bravely served in our nation's armed forces. Our state is proud to be home to nearly two million veterans - more than any other state in the country. The vast majority of these brave women and men began their service as young people, willingly risking their lives and their futures to defend our nation.

"Our veterans don't just deserve words of praise one day each year. Our state and nation must thank them with meaningful actions and supportive policies year-round. That begins with the fundamentals - medical care, a good-paying job, education, and housing. And we must address unique challenges that often come from their service.

"This Veterans Day in particular, with fires devastating communities on both ends of our state, California is especially grateful for the many veterans who are yet again serving their communities as first responders on the front lines. They are again proving themselves to be heroes."
