Trip centers around the theme of Economy, Environment and Equity

Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Governor Gavin Newsom’s representative for International Affairs and Trade Development, will lead a government and business delegation from California to Mexico City to collaborate on key issues important to the California – Mexico relationship: clean technology, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and issues of health, labor and immigration. The focused mission will result in the signing of several new agreements with Mexico, doubling efforts to solve one of the great issues of our age: how do we continue to survive and thrive together in an age of rising global temperatures, an ever-increasing population to feed and shelter, and more extreme and frequent natural and man-made disasters.

Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis said “this high-level California delegation will bring a message of friendship to the people of Mexico and the Mexican government. The agreements we intend to ratify will advance cooperation around the climate and resilience agenda, bolster trade and economic opportunities, and bring greater understanding of immigration issues affecting people and families on both sides of the border. I am honored to lead this group to advance mutually beneficial relations between the people of California and the people of Mexico.”
