California and Mexico City Reach Agreement on Clean Energy

Focus to include low carbon energy, clean technology and biofuels, and energy efficiency.

Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Governor Gavin Newsom’s representative for International Affairs and Trade Development, announced today that Mexico City, including the Office of the Secretary of the Environment, and the Government of the State of California signed an agreement on energy and environmental policies and practices. The memorandum of understanding includes provisions that expand collaboration in the areas of energy efficiency codes and standards, enhanced use of data for energy efficiency, environmental and energy policy development and planning, and cross border optimization of the electricity grid. The California Energy Commission and the California Environmental Protection Agency negotiated the agreement.

Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis said, “This ratified agreement embodies a strong response to the threat of climate change and promotes the economic and job creating benefits of clean energy.”
