Sacramento – Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis issued the following statement on the Passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein:

“It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein, a stalwart figure in American politics and trailblazer for women whose decades of public service has left a profound mark on California and our nation.

Senator Feinstein’s career was defined by an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the American people. She was a tireless advocate for gun control, an instrumental figure on climate change policies, and a defender of national security. Her bipartisan approach and ability to find common ground in a divided political landscape served as a beacon of hope for progress for our country.

Senator Feinstein’s legacy will be remembered by many historic firsts. As the first woman to serve as Mayor of San Francisco, California’s first female senator, and the longest-serving female senator in U.S. history, she was a trailblazer for women in politics, breaking through barriers and showing that women could play in the big leagues.

As we reflect on Senator Feinstein’s life and legacy, let us remember her as a true public servant and a champion of the people. Her contributions to Californians and our country will be remembered with deep respect, and her friendship will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and condolences go out to her family, loved ones, and all those who were touched by her service and her spirit.”
